It all began with Saint Brigida.The story, veiled in legend, tells that around 1300, a nun from Sweden, returning from a long pilgrimage, stopped in Montalbano, finding it a land of refreshment and suggestions. Here she founded the convent of the same name of the Brigidine order where they began to produce a delight called "Brigidino" in the form of the consecrated host, using the simple ingredients they had available such as sugar, flour, eggs and anicini; ingredients that are still found today in modern production.
