Fabbri Amarena are pitted wild sour cherries in a thick syrup, in the small 230 g (8.1 oz) version of Fabbri's famous blue and white jar. The recipe goes back to Rachele Fabbri, who cooked the local sour cherries in sugar for the family's shop in Portomaggiore, near Ferrara, in the early 1900s; Fabbri 1905 now makes them in Bologna. Ingredients: sugar, amarena wild cherries, glucose syrup, water, amarena wild cherry juice, citric acid, fruit and vegetable juice for color, natural flavors. Gluten free. Spoon them over gelato, panna cotta or cheesecake, or drop one into a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned.
